Associations between Sow Body Condition with Subsequent Reproductive Performance

نویسندگان

چکیده

The objective was to quantify relationships between sow body condition and subsequent reproduction. Multiparous sows were measured at breeding (n = 1571) farrowing 887) on a commercial farm in eastern North Carolina. Sow measures included: caliper (CS), weight (BW), backfat, longissimus muscle area (LMA) visual score (BCS). production traits were: number born alive (NBA), litter birth (LBW), weaned (NW), piglet survival (PS), weaning (LWW), wean-to-conception interval (WCI), rate lactation average daily feed intake. Data analyzed SAS using PROC GLM for continuous GLIMMIX categorical traits. Breeding CS had curvilinear relationship (P 0.05) with NBA, LBW, NW, PS WCI, of 15 being optimal NW 14 ideal LBW WCI. LMA PS, 51.5 cm2 maximizing survival. BCS 3.2 WCI 3.0 PS. Farrowing optimal. 3.6 ideal. BW LWW 220 210 kg, respectively, 51.6 Results provide targets maximize reproductive throughput. present study suggests feeding target (representing back angle 130&#730 132.5&#730) productivity.

Sow body composition and its associations with reproductive and litter growth performance of the primiparous sow

The complex of desirable maternal traits includes litter size, mothering ability and milk production, combined with aspects of piglet viability or survival and sow rebreeding performance. There are two major contradictory elements within this trait complex. Firstly, larger litters will be, on average, lighter at birth, and result in an extended duration of farrowing. These characteristics may a...

Sow feed intake and lifetime reproductive performance

For many breeding companies, performance testing in maternal lines is generally confined to traits such as average daily gain (ADG), back fat (BF) and perhaps loin muscle depth or area (LMD or LMA), along with litter size traits such as number born alive (NBA) or total born (TB). More sophisticated breeding programs will also accommodate traits associated with sow performance, longevity or pigl...

Effect of lasalocid on reproductive performance and subsequent lactation in the sow.

The effect of lasalocid (140 mg . head-1 . d-1) on sow reproductive performance and subsequent piglet performance during lactation were examined in a trial that involved 114 sows. Treatments consisted of 1) control diet with no lasalocid during gestation and lactation; 2) lasalocid diet during gestation, control diet during lactation; 3) control diet during gestation and lasalocid diet during l...

Relationships between body weight at first mating and subsequent body development, feed intake, and reproductive performance of rabbit does.

A retrospective study was performed to evaluate the relationships between BW at first insemination and subsequent body development, feed intake, reproductive performance, and culling rate of rabbit does. Young rabbit does are vulnerable to body energy deficit in first lactation, resulting in decreased reproductive performance and high replacement rate. Heavy does at first insemination might be ...
